About the robot
Salvius is the first open source humanoid robot to be built in the United States. The robot's name is a portmanteau of 'salvaged' and 'U.S.' because 85% of the robot is made using recycled materials. Admittedly 'Salvius' is not a very traditional name for a robot but the main feature of the name is that it has been around since the ancient Roman Empire. Although the combination of words that fall into it work well it is in fact a real name belonging to many different people throughout history. What I like about the Roman heritage of the name is that the Romans were such fantastic engineers for their time and I hope to use their ingenuity as a model for my own while working on this robot.
